About Me
Selena Sliger MSW, RSW, CTP
Registered Therapist
I have over 20 years experience working in various public sector areas such as Children's Services, Income Support as well as for First Nations Agencies in Northwestern Alberta. I also have over 25 years of experience in a variety of volunteer endeavors which includes (but is not limited to) grant writing, creation of non profits and program evaluations. I decided to pursue my Master of Social Work in Clinical Counselling because I wanted to help people who have been negatively impacted by the systems I have worked in. Raised by a parent with significant mental illness and enduring my own experiences with mental illness and neurodivergence, I am familiar with the impacts and issues of mental illness and injury. I also understand that each person's experiences are unique and individual.
Employing a trauma focused, anti-oppressive lens and person-centered strength based approach to meet people where they are in their journey to awaken their spirit.
Preferring an eclectic approach and drawing from a variety of therapy methods (modalities) including solution focused, narrative therapy, and Accelerated Resolution Therapy, I understand that each person and their journey is unique, and may not benefit from a focus on one modality.
Drawing from my personal and professional experiences as well as my many years of formal education and training regarding the impacts of trauma, I will help you explore the physical and mental injuries to facilitate healing.
I acknowledge the impacts of Colonialism to facilitate a shift of the deficit narrative to one of intergenerational survivance. I am also able to provide support to those who work in the helping fields.
Healing begins once people feel truly heard, seen, and validated.
